Dwight Phyall ’06, also known as “The Dapper Oenophile,”will lead a webinar about his journey into the vast world of wine. He will introduce the best red and white wines (not named cabernet and chardonnay, respectively!) and the basics of wine tasting, and he’ll unravel a few of the complexities that may be stopping you from getting to the next level of enjoyment of this incredibly versatile beverage.
Taste along with him as he guides a virtual tasting of zinfandel (not to be confused with white zinfandel) and albariño. Suggested bottles to purchase, though not required, for the tasting are: Bear Flag Zinfandel 2016 and La Cana Albariño 2017.
If you cannot find the specific wines above then follow along with substitutions! Common California Zinfandels include Ancient Peaks, Decoy, Carol Shelton Wild Thing, and St. Francis. Albariño can also be substituted with any producer from Spain, specifically from the Rias Baixas, Galicia region. Other common offerings are Martin Codax, Burgans, Val Do Sosego, and Bodegas Terras Gauda.
